I Finally Made It

This will be a short post. I made to FOB Normandy. The conditions here are horrible. There is mud everywhere and are rooms have no furnishings. They are converted prison cells. There is no PX here and very little to do. I am at the MWR typing this with a computer with missing keys. I cannot use phonecards here so please do not send them. My spirits are high though. We should start doing missions soon. Looking forward to everyones comments. I love you all.

Jeremy,
Glad to see that you made it to your destination, even though living quarters are primitive. There is always something to do, look around, use your imagination. They will probably be keeping you busy soon.

We saw Athena recently. She has a job 3 days a week with Dr. Hall in Marengo (chiropractor) after graduation. Anna will be flying to Brazil for Unity Stoakes' wedding at the end of March. She is extremely excited. See www.stoakes.com for pictures if you get a chance.

Are they talking about the election over there?

Be bigger than life, will be thinking about you.

Love, Becky

Well Jeremy your "low tech" mom has sent her first e-mail on this site!! What an adventure you are now living. To be thousands of miles from home and family, to be in a land so very different from your own. To be near people who talk and think differently. I hope you will be able to learn some of the customs, ideas, and even some of their language. I know that this experience will change you in ways that words can't describe. Living in a converted prison must be surreal...just think if those walls could talk...if your spirits get low just listen to the "talking walls" and remember that you are there to help these people in transition towards a better life with choices and freedoms that they have not known. Every time I go to a store I see rows and rows of "things" to buy, but I am reminded that many of the Iraq people don't have all these choices nor the income to afford such simple luxuries. I hope you find time to write your thoughts and experiences on real paper...maybe you could even sketch a little. Take care and remember "turn left"...Love Mama Lydia

Hi J, like I told you last time I don't get on here everyday, so I am always behind. I hope you will still see this little note. I am very glad that you made it safely to your destination. I hope the conditions improve for you. I am glad you are feeling better. Will continue to pray for you. I know you are in the Lord's hands and that's the best place to be.
Love you, Aunt P

Hi Jeremy,

I came across this 'chat' by searching for information on FOB Normandy. My son was sent there from Ft Benning on Jan. 17th. My prayers are with you. Do you mind if I send a chat now and then? I am eager to learn about the area you guys are in; doesn't sound like a place our travel guide would recommend.

My son is Spc Gregory Hall, A company, 1-30th inf. If you see him tell him his mother is looking for him. I am sure we will hear soon from him. With prayers for you and your family,

Mrs. Hall
